Calculate how many rolls or pallets of sod/turf you need for your lawn.
This sod (turf) calculator tells you how much turf to order for a new lawn — in square metres or feet, plus the number of rolls and pallets. It's for homeowners and landscapers laying a fresh lawn or patching an existing one who want to order enough turf without over-buying.
For a rectangular lawn 8 m long by 5 m wide:
You need about 112 standard rolls (2×4.5 ft = 9 sq ft each) or roughly 2.5 pallets with 5% waste.
Typically 50 rolls per pallet, covering about 450 sq ft (42 m²).
Spring and early autumn are ideal. Avoid extreme heat or frost. Water immediately after laying.
A standard turf roll covers about 1 square metre. The calculator divides your lawn area by the roll size and adds a little for trimming.
Lay turf within 24 hours of delivery — it deteriorates quickly on the pallet, especially in warm weather. Water it well once laid.
