Use our plasterboard calculator to work out how many sheets you need and total cost. Supports metric & imperial units. Fast, accurate drywall estimates.
Enter your measurements above to see the results.
First, calculate the area of a single plasterboard sheet (length × width). Divide the total wall or ceiling area by the sheet area to get the base number of sheets. Add the specified percentage for wastage. Always round up to the nearest whole sheet. Multiply the total number of sheets by the cost per sheet to get the total cost. If imperial units are selected, convert all measurements to metric for calculation, then present results in the chosen unit system.
Inputs: unitSystem = 'Metric', area = 30 m², sheetLength = 2.4 m, sheetWidth = 1.2 m, wastagePercent = 10, currency = 'GBP', costPerSheet = 9.00. Sheet area = 2.4 × 1.2 = 2.88 m². Base sheets = 30 / 2.88 = 10.42. Including 10% wastage: 10.42 × 1.10 = 11.46. Rounded up = 12 sheets. Total cost = 12 × £9.00 = £108.00.
Start by selecting your preferred unit system—metric or imperial. Measure the total area to be covered, enter your chosen plasterboard sheet dimensions, and add a wastage percentage to allow for offcuts and mistakes. Our calculator automatically works out the number of sheets and the cost for you.
Plasterboard comes in various sizes, typically 2.4m x 1.2m (8ft x 4ft). Selecting a sheet size that matches your wall or ceiling dimensions can minimise joints and reduce wastage. Always check your local supplier’s available sizes before starting.
Cutting boards to fit awkward spaces, around windows and doors, or handling breakages will create some waste. It’s best practice to add 10–15% to your calculation to ensure you have enough material for your project.
Material prices can vary by region and thickness. Enter your local cost per sheet and select your currency to get an accurate total price in GBP, USD, EUR, CAD, AUD, or NZD. This helps you plan your budget and compare suppliers.
Store sheets flat in a dry place, use the correct fixings for walls or ceilings, and stagger joints for strength. Always follow manufacturer recommendations for handling and installation.
Measure the height and width of each wall or ceiling section and multiply them to get the area. Add up the areas of all sections to get the total.
Yes, simply enter the total area you want to cover and the calculator will work for walls, ceilings, or both.
A 10–15% wastage allowance is standard to cover offcuts and accidental damage.
Yes, you can choose metric (metres, m²) or imperial (feet, ft²) and the calculator will handle conversions for accurate results.
Enter the cost per sheet and select your currency. The calculator multiplies the required number of sheets by the unit price for a total cost.
Simply enter the length and width of the sheet size you plan to use, and the calculator will adjust the calculation accordingly.
